What does Coastal Plain CASA do?
Coastal Plain CASA trains community-based volunteers to serve as advocates for foster children and other children found to be deprived by the juvenile court. After completing extensive training, each volunteer is appointed to serve a single child or sibling group. The volunteer thoroughly investigates the family history and current living situation, interviews the child(ren), parents and professionals involved in the case, and presents recommendations to the court seeking the best possible results for the child(ren). As an independent investigator and monitor, the CASA volunteer and agency focuses entirely on the interests of the child, rather than splitting attention between interests of the child and parents/state. Ultimately, the CASA program seeks to find a safe, permanent home for each child within a reasonable timeframe. Coastal Plain CASA serves the children of the Tifton Judicial Circuit (Irwin, Tift, Turner, Worth counties) in Georgia.
