Free blood pressure checks all of May
The Irwin County Health Department will provide free blood pressure checks throughout May in recognition of High Blood Pressure Education Month. The department is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 468-5003 for more information.
Library to be closed on Memorial Day
The Irwin County Library will be closed for Memorial Day Monday, May 31. The library will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, June 1.
Homecoming group to meet Sunday
The Ocilla/Irwin County Grand Homecoming Steering Committee will meet Sunday, May 30, at 5 p.m. at the Neighborhood Center on North Oak Street.
Magician kicks off summer reading
World-famous magician Ken Scott will kick off the Irwin County Library's Summer Reading performance series with a show today, Wednesday, May 26 at 4:30 p.m. Scott has performed at the White House and appeared on CNN Headline News, among countless other credits. His dazzling performance will be free of charge and open to the public. Scott is just the first of several performers who will visit the Irwin County Library during the Coastal Plain Regional Library System's Vacation Reading Program, which starts today, May 26. Children of all ages can enjoy free family fun at the Coastal Plain Regional Libraries in Berrien, Cook, Irwin, Tift and Turner counties.
Free summer meals for kids and teens
Free summer meals will be offered for kids and teens at the Neighborhood Service Center June 1 to July 31, Monday through Friday. Breakfast will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. For more information, call Charlotte Middlebrooks at (229) 325-3019.
Blood drive today at IC Hospital
A Southeastern Community Blood Center blood drive will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 26, at Irwin County Hospital.
Canning plant open Tuesday-Thursday

Teenwork provides job opportunities

4-H club selling Vidalia onions
The Irwin County 4-H club is selling sweet, locally grown Vidalia onions. The onions come in 10-pound bags and are $8 a bag. Come by the Irwin County Extension office or find a 4-H member to order your bags now.
